Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) GRANT

The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) is Canada’s leading innovation assistance program for small and medium-sized businesses.

If you operate an innovative small or medium-sized business in Canada, we can help you build your innovation capacity and take your ideas to market. We do this through financial assistance, advisory services and connections to the best business expertise in Canada. It’s a winning model we’ve been using to drive business growth—and Canada’s innovation system—for over 70 years.

The NRC IRAP has helped thousands of businesses become stronger, more competitive and more productive throughout their lifecycles. With our assistance, these businesses have increased sales by over 120% per year on average, grown their workforce by 20% annually on average, created almost 100 new products/services per year on average and generated millions of dollars in new revenue each year.

Jobs and Growth Fund (JGF) GRANT

The Jobs and Growth Fund (JGF) is a $700-million federal program to support regional job creation and position local economies for long-term growth. This includes up to $70 million dedicated to businesses created after January 2020 that meet the eligibility criteria.

The fund will help job creators and the organizations that support them future-proof their businesses, build resiliency and prepare for growth by:

  • Providing grants of up to $5,000 per business to cover costs associated with training, equipment, software or other expenses related to business growth;

 

  • Providing grants of up to $10,000 per business to cover costs associated with researching, planning and implementing new technologies;

 

  • Delivering technical assistance workshops through a network of knowledgeable professionals who can help owners and managers develop strategies for future success;

 

  • Identifying opportunities for small businesses to access new markets through networking events, industry-specific trade shows or other networking opportunities;

Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) INCENTIVE

SRED (or SR&ED) refers to the Canadian Government’s “Scientific Research and Experimental Development” program. This is a generous incentive program that rewards companies of any size for conducting Research and Development (R&D) activities in Canada.

If you’re a business owner or an employee in Canada, you may be eligible for these tax credits to help offset the cost of your company’s R&D projects. The SRED program will pay up to 35% of your eligible costs for an R&D project done in Canada.
